In Hong Kong, the issue of acne is a concern that nearly every teenager and young adult has experienced. Whether male or female, many individuals choose to seek medical assistance when facing the challenging hurdle of “acne.” However, treating acne is not as simple as a single consultation or using a particular product; it’s a battle that requires patience and perseverance.

Many acne sufferers may share the same frustration: why do some acne products seem effective, yet the moment we let our guard down, new breakouts appear? The answer lies in the fact that acne treatment does not have a definitive endpoint. We must understand that maintaining healthy skin requires consistent effort.

First and foremost, it is imperative to remind everyone not to stay up late! Lack of sleep can exacerbate skin inflammation. When dealing with sudden breakouts, I utilize readily available skincare products for immediate care. For example, I often use products containing tea tree oil, as they can be quite helpful for rapidly addressing acne. Of course, some individuals may have a sensitivity to tea tree oil.

While providing immediate care, it is also crucial to pay attention to subsequent skincare routines. After using products that contain glycolic acid, allowing the skin to rest briefly before applying salicylic acid can significantly enhance the results. Although some people might worry about potential skin damage, as long as the chosen products are suitable for their skin type and used in moderation, there shouldn’t be any issues.

However, relying solely on urgent care measures will not resolve the underlying problem. Whether at home or in a medical facility, we should continue with proper treatment. Even if certain products improve skin condition in the short term, if the root cause remains unresolved, acne will inevitably become a recurring problem.

It is also important to emphasize that acne treatment is a long-term process. In the past, some patients suddenly stopped their treatment after completing a course, resulting in a rebound of acne, or even a worsening of their condition. Such situations are not uncommon in our clinic, so cultivating a daily skincare routine is essential. Even as we age and new skin issues arise, continuous care and regular check-ups are indispensable.

When facing acne, we should not feel disheartened. By remaining patient, consistently using suitable skincare products, and maintaining regular communication with our doctors, we can not only improve our skin condition but also help establish long-term care habits. Only in this way can we ultimately free ourselves from the entanglement of acne and enjoy healthier, more beautiful skin.
