Summer Skincare- Importance of Hydration and Choosing the Right Products

Moisturizer ingredients

During summer, it’s essential to strengthen our protection against UV rays and pay special attention to moisturizing our skin. Dry skin can lead to fine lines, dullness, and combination skin, making it critical to replenish moisture. Many people assume that sweating in the scorching heat eliminates the need for hydration, but this is a misconception.

In the summer, women spend most of their day in air-conditioned environments, both at home and at work. Air conditioning tends to dehydrate the skin, making it feel tight and dry within hours, necessitating extra care. Even when outdoors, the sun’s rays can evaporate moisture from our skin, making it crucial to moisturize frequently.

Moisturizing during summer has its own set of rules that differ from winter. Just like our clothing, skincare products must also change as we transition from one season to another. Dry winters necessitate oilier products, while summer calls for lighter and more absorbent ones. Using heavy moisturizers can clog pores and cause the skin to appear oily. Some people use moisturizing sprays, but these merely provide temporary relief, as the water will evaporate quickly, exacerbating dryness.

To address skin dryness, we must select suitable moisturizing products that contain two types of ingredients: humectants, such as hyaluronic acid and glycerol, which attract water molecules and retain them on the skin’s surface, and occlusives, such as lanolin and petroleum jelly, which lock in moisture within the skin’s cells. In summer, where the weather is more humid and hot, we should opt for humectants that are more effective at capturing water molecules. If we spend prolonged periods in air-conditioned environments, we should choose occlusives that are more adept at retaining moisture.

Different weather conditions and environments require different moisturizing products. It’s always best to test the texture of the product before deciding to use it and ensure that our skin receives the best possible protection. Remember to hydrate our skin in the summer, and we’ll be rewarded with supple, radiant skin.
