Removing makeup is not a trivial matter; it is crucial for maintaining healthy skin.

So, why is makeup removal so important? If you’ve worn heavy makeup at night, such as eyeliner, mascara, thick foundation, and long-lasting lipstick, special makeup removers are needed to thoroughly cleanse these products. Using regular soap or just water won’t effectively remove them, leading to clogged pores, which can result in acne and blemishes. Failing to remove makeup completely or doing so infrequently can also cause skin to become dull, affecting overall complexion. Additionally, improper cleaning of eye makeup can result in issues like pigmentation, so choosing the right makeup remover is very important.

Here, we categorize makeup removal products into six main types to help you better understand their characteristics. First is cleansing oil, which can be further divided into emulsifiable and non-emulsifiable types. Emulsifiable cleansing oils can mix with water upon contact, making them easy to rinse off, while non-emulsifiable ones are harder to clean and are better suited for dry skin. Therefore, those with oily skin should opt for emulsifiable cleansing oils to minimize the risk of whiteheads and acne.

Next, cleansing creams are also a common choice, suitable for friends with dry or sensitive skin. However, after using cleansing cream, it is necessary to follow up with a facial cleanser to avoid leaving oil residues on the skin. Cleansing milks and gels are lighter products that are suitable for normal to oily skin. They are relatively less effective at removing makeup but do not feel greasy.

Lastly, there is micellar water, which has a lower cleaning ability and may not be suitable for sensitive skin. Generally, cleansing milk, cleansing gel, or all-in-one cleansing products are better choices. If needed, you can also choose emulsifiable cleansing oils, but make sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid residue.

Many people are concerned about the use of mineral oil, but as long as you choose suitable products and control the amount used, its impact on the skin is minimal. However, those with oily skin should avoid products containing mineral oil, as they may exacerbate oiliness.

When removing eye and lip makeup, the key is to be gentle. After letting the product sit for a few seconds, gently wipe with a cotton pad, avoiding excessive pulling to prevent skin damage. Many people often feel dryness after cleansing, which can result from over-cleansing or using inappropriate products, leading to oily skin on the inside and dryness on the outside. Knowing this, everyone should be more cautious when choosing makeup removal products, opting for those suitable for their skin type to achieve better results.
