LM SKINCENTRE Hong Kong introduces Emtone, manufactured by BTL, which is a combination of radiofrequency and targeted pressure energy to reduce the appearance of cellulite dimples.
Emtone can be done on different parts of the body including upper arm, thigh, abdomen and buttock. With no surgery or minimal downtime, it can improve five causes of cellulite dimples: 1. loss of skin elasticity due to deteriorating elastin and collagen fibers
- enlarged fat chambers
- fluid and metabolic waste retention
- poor blood flow
- fibrous bands that pull down skin, causing fat to bulge
How does Emtone work?
Emtone works by using radiofrequency energy to warm the skin to around 42.2-43.8ºC. At this temperature, collagen undergoes structural changes that tighten existing collagen fibers and stimulate new collagen production, resulting in skin tightening.
The Emtone device also emits acoustic waves that disrupt and stimulate the skin, boosting circulation and discouraging the collection of fluid that contributes to the bumpy appearance of cellulite.
Over the coming weeks and months, new collagen tightens the skin and evens out fat deposits that cause cellulite dimpling.
Is Emtone safe?
Emtone is an in-office procedure that’s FDA-cleared to reduce the appearance of cellulite dimples. It is non-invasive and has minimal downtime. It’s safe for all skin tones.
What is the difference between Emtone and Emsculpt (Emtone vs Emsculpt)?
Emtone is often confused with the body contouring and muscle toning procedure Emsculpt, another noninvasive treatment developed by BTL. Emsculpt tones muscles by inducing rapid contractions (thousands of times in a few minutes) with electromagnetic energy, burning fat along the way. It can tone muscles in the abdomen and buttocks, as well as smaller areas like the upper arms, thighs, and calves.
If your goal is less cellulite and more muscle tone, these two treatments can be complementary.
What are the limitations of Emtone?
The procedure won’t fix seriously sagging skin.
It’s not a quick fix for the treatment of cellulite. Doctors recommend four to eight sessions, for best results.
It takes time for new collagen to develop, so you won’t see optimal results until about three months after your final treatment.
Results aren’t permanent. You’ll need touch-up sessions to maintain your results.
Who are good candidates for Emtone?
People of all skin types and tones with the problem of cellulite can be a good candidate for Emtone. The only exception is patients with significant skin laxity. Patient will relatively good skin elasticity respond better to treatment.
What is the procedure for an Emtone treatment?
Emtone is not painful, and it requires no anesthesia. Treatment for a single area takes about 15-30 minutes.
First, you’ll lie down on a treatment table. Your therapist will place a grounding pad on your back, to safely deliver radiofrequency energy. Then they’ll glide the Emtone handpiece over your skin with the help of a conductive moisturizing lotion.
Your skin will feel warm as the tissue temperature rises, but the continual movement of the handpiece and an automatic-shutoff safety feature ensures that it won’t become too hot or uncomfortable.
You’ll also feel intense mechanical vibrations. You may have some weird feeling and the area may have soreness after a few sessions. The procedure was a bit noisy as well.
Your skin may look pink and feel warm, but you’ll be able to resume normal activities immediately afterward.
How soon will you see Emtone results?
You will need to wait for 12 weeks after your last session for new collagen to develop.
Depending on your clinical situation, it is recommended to have a total of four to eight Emtone sessions in 2-4 weeks. Your doctor will assess your condition and recommend the most suitable number of sessions for you.
You may notice the skin in the treated area is much tighter, smoother and less dimpled.
Are Emtone results permanent?
This is not a surgical treatment and is not meant to be permanent. Your doctor may recommend follow-up sessions every 3–12 months to maintain your results.
